Character NAME: Ardeth Bay
Canon & MEDIUM: The Mummy (film)
Canon PULL-POINT: Between the first and second films, when Ardeth returns to the desert and fellow Medjai to...well, sit around and make sure the world doesn't explode or anything.
Character AGE: appx mid-thirties
Character ABILITIES: Good with a gun, great with a sword. Can ride on horseback or via camel without much trouble, completely inexperienced with most forms of technological transport like planes, busses, etc. Well above average with hand-to-hand combat.
Character HISTORY: THERE IS A TON IN THIS WIKI LINK. Probably too much.
Character PERSONALITY:

Ardeth has one very simple goal: to protect the world. It's a duty he's had since he was old enough to be considered a 'man' (likely around the age of 14-15) serving as part of a secret society of elite warriors sworn to guard Hamunaptra (The City of the Dead) and keep what evil resting within its walls at...well, rest. In ancient times, the Medjai were like bodyguards akin to the Secret Service, and what is left of their legacy at the beginning of the Mummy is no less dedicated or disciplined. Ardeth is vigilant, decisive, devoted and willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done. A small sacrifice (even something like a few innocent lives) is perfectly acceptable if it means keeping the entire world safe. He is, however, easily swayed away from those heavy decisions with very little effort. If his friends can offer him another solution-- even if it's a riskier one, or perhaps not the most sound-- he's willing to make it.

So it's easy to say that honor and loyalty rank way, way up there on the list for him ( to his friends as much as his duties as a Medjai) regardless of the cost. He was, after all, willing to sacrifice himself to buy his friends more time to stop Imhotep in Hamunaptra, despite the fact that the odds were absolutely against him. It's likely that, what with the threat of Imhotep put to an end in his world, and the threat of the UE in Exsilium's absolutely on the rise, that he will eagerly look to join the fight and dedicate himself to this cause. No fuss, no fear or guilt or anger, just a willingness to do what is necessary to ensure the survival of humanity. And Ardeth, despite coming from the 1920s and a lifestyle involving absolutely no technology at all, has this sort of childish love of it. Flying by plane is enough to have him grinning like a child at christmas, and his first busride? Well, despite being nearly killed, he was laughing at the end of it because he'd never been on one before.

And you might think that someone so stoic and calm in general, that loses his composure the second he's setting foot on some modern transportation, would be equally as thrilled in a fight (and there likely are people out there who do) but Ardeth isn't one of them. Fighting is a serious matter, regardless of the circumstances. That's not to say he doesn't enjoy it sometimes (he very clearly does, particularly when he has the opportunity to use a very, very large gun) but that even when he's thrilled during a firefight, he won't show it till the battle is over and things are very obviously settled.

It's also unlikely that he'll be suspicious of the Initiative, not when the UE is running rampant causing so much destruction, so he'd easily form a close bond with anyone loyal to the Initiative's cause right off the start-- staff included. And though he might disagree with their decisions, it'd take one hell of a lot to make him drop that pledge. One hell of a lot. In other words, it's not likely to ever happen.

Ever.

Chosen WEAPON: His saif (basically just a curved sword) as much a symbol as a weapon-- and his primary one at that, despite often choosing to set it aside in favor of a serious heavy machine gun. Over time it will become more lightweight, have increased range and resilience, and manage to cut through material that would otherwise be far too dense to be damaged.
Chosen SKILLSET: FIGHTER ALL THE WAY. Send him in to defend some people, stat!
Character INVENTORY:
HIS BIRD, HORUS. Okay, probably not kept in his pocket, but on his arm, at least. A small falcon, his oldest friend and companion.
One bandolier with (useless because lmao, no proper gun for them) about 30 individual assault rifle bullets.
One janbiya (a small, mostly ceremonial knife worn on the belt.)
A few egyptian pounds from the 1920s era
A flask for water + a small amount of dried meat and fruit (what could reasonably fit in a side pouch)

First PERSON:
[The video feed flicks on, but it's unclear as to whether or not the act is intentional, as the screen doesn't seem to be aimed at anything in particular-- oh, no, there it goes, moving around like mad, picture pointed down at the floor one moment, then up at the ceiling the next before finally settling on the image of a man with dark hair and hieroglyphic tattoos written out over his face. His hand obscures the screen for a moment before the image is half-covered with...something. Cloth perhaps, for the more perceptive. ]

Truly this is remarkable. A radio that bends as if it were made of leather.

I assume this means that there will be no reason for me to send you out so often, my friend. [There's the sound of a rustling of feathers just before a falcon with tawny wings lands atop the screen, attempting to tear into it with its beak as if it were a nut needing to be split apart. The man reaches over, gently lifting the bird up and away from the screen, his voice nothing but patient.] Horus, do not be jealous. You and I have much work to do.

[The video shifts once more, and to anyone with a keen enough grasp of perspective despite the shakiness of the image, it's remarkably obvious that he's fastened the tablet to his wrist and is walking about his assigned apartment with it. Lovely.]

If there are others out there like myself, I pray this message finds you well. My name is Ardeth Bay, and in my world I was a Medjai, a warrior of God sworn to protect the innocent from darkness. I did not expect to find myself here, but I now see why I was called; if there is such great evil in this world, if there is so little hope, I will gladly do all that I can to lay this threat to rest.

I am your ally until this 'United Earth' is undone, or until I am.

[And with that, the screen is prodded once more, dropping the call. At least he knows how to do that. ]

Third PERSON:

There's a low growl from the back of the alleyway, opposite to where Ardeth stands hunched over, low and balanced with his sword at the ready, sharpened edge glinting in what little light there is. This isn't his battle-- or rather, it wasn't meant to be. Medjai were trained to fight against the unholy and the undead, yes, but of their world, and no matter what he's been told, no matter what anyone might claim, this is not his earth. If it were, such things would never have been permitted to come to pass. But it doesn't matter what reality this is, there are lives at stake, people in need, and monsters roaming the streets like strays. He doesn't need any more of a cause than that.

One quick flick of his blade and he reverses the grip, closing in on the cornered beast. For a brief moment it feels as though he's stalking through the ruins of Hamunaptra again, pressing through the cold, unnaturally still air. Two steps in and he finally sees the soft glow of reflective eyes. Inhuman, bloodthirsty-- he's seen it before. Been trained for it for as long as he can remember. And when he's so far into the shadows of the alley that the outline of his own hands fades off into blackness, he charges, makes three quick strikes against those eyes, and feels the satisfying pressure of resistance as his sword sinks hard into flesh. He withdraws when the creature falls still.

To anyone else the situation would likely seem alien, wrong. Ardeth wouldn't bother to argue against it. But for him, for any Medjai, the backdrop is inconsequential when the battle itself is familiar. These abominations are his enemy, and not the only ones lying in wait in this world. God willing, he would live to put an end to both.
